Stormcloud

During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence.

Recipe Information:

Style: German Influenced India Pale Ale
Alcohol By Volume: 6.0%
International Bitterness Units: 64
Color: Reddish Copper
Hops: Warrior, US Goldings
Malts: 2 Row, Vienna, Crystal
Tasting Notes: Assertive Bitterness, Light Malt Sweetness, Fruity

Serving Suggestions:

Preferred Glass: Pint
Preferred Serving Temperature: 48º
Food Pairings: IPAs, such as Stormcloud, are renowned for their ability to stand up to the spiciest of foods. Pair Stormcloud with Thai, Indian and Mexican food and you’ll find yourself on an exciting culinary adventure. Or you can stay closer to home because Stormcloud goes just as well with a burger or some chicken grilled in your backyard.

This is a very good and respectable IPA...very hoppy but still very drinkable. Good work Rahr guys. I'm looking forward to trying Blind Salamander IPA!!!

I need to buy a ship to make the voyage as this Ale is my favorite.

Just returned from the UK and this Ale is shoulder above those I indulged as I pub hopped across the UK.

Your ale stands above those I indulged in during my recent trip to the UK. Glad to see this is a mainstay for your line.
I do believe the serving temp. is crucial for the flovors to be fully enjoyed.

I lift my glass in salute!

What is the german influence? If I remember correctly it was initially a lager. It is a ale now?

Perfect IPA, not overpowering like many seem to be. Hands down my favorite brewery now!

Noah makes the call… Tony makes the pitch… and Fritz knocks it out of the park right into the Stormcloud! This is THE IPA that I would recommend those not into all that hops to try in order to develop an appreciation for hoppy brews!! All it took was a Texas IPA to get my head wrapped around all this hoppy-deliciousness! I’ve now had the pleasure of trying this brew both from the bottle and from the tap right at the brewery on one of their tours! A topaz colored body with a good frothy head that dissipates somewhat quickly to a thin sheen and good lacing effects. Lots of citrusy hops as well as some sweet malts on the nose. Medium-bodied and extremely smooth brew with an awesomely clean finish that’s not too hoppy nor too sweet! Definitely one of the best IPAs this malt-head has tasted!! Pairs well with pheasant, quail, smoked salmon/trout, or some spicy venison.

Style: German Influenced India Pale Ale. Very smooth IPA. I can see, smell and taste the German influence! Would love to try it on tap.

Enjoying one now. Cool that you'll be able to add the ABV and take that extra 'ALE' off the bottle now! Slainte (Prost)!
